THE DEAL.
Last updated: 2026-06-09
These are the terms for using HotLaps — the iOS app and hotlapsapp.com. We kept them short and in plain language on purpose. By creating an account or using HotLaps, you’re agreeing to everything on this page. If you don’t agree, don’t use the app.
Who can use HotLaps
You must be at least 16 years old to use HotLaps. This is an app for meeting strangers on a mountain with live location sharing — it’s built for adults and older teens, not kids. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 16, we’ll remove it.
You also need to give us accurate account info, keep your password to yourself, and use one account that’s actually yours. Don’t impersonate anyone — not another rider, not ski patrol, not us.
The mountain is on you
Skiing and snowboarding are inherently dangerous. HotLaps helps you find people, but it does not assess terrain, conditions, avalanche risk, or whether the stranger you matched with is a good lap partner. When you meet up with someone from the app, you do so at your own risk.
- Ride within your own ability. Never let an app match push you onto terrain you wouldn’t pick yourself.
- Follow resort rules, the skier responsibility code, and posted closures. Always.
- Use normal stranger-meetup judgment: meet at public spots, tell a friend, trust your gut.
- HotLaps is not a safety, rescue, or emergency service. If something goes wrong, contact ski patrol or emergency services — not the app.
Be decent
Open-graph discovery only works if people aren’t jerks. Using HotLaps to do any of the following gets you removed:
- Harassment, threats, hate speech, or unwanted sexual content — in chat, meetups, photos, anywhere.
- Stalking or tracking people. Presence data is for meeting up, not following anyone around.
- Impersonation, fake profiles, or misrepresenting yourself in ways that put others at risk.
- Scams, spam, recruiting, or using meetups as a pretext to sell something.
- Scraping data, probing the API, or trying to extract other users’ location info.
- Anything illegal, including breaking resort rules in ways that endanger others.
Your content
You own what you post — your photos, statuses, messages, and meetups. By posting, you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, and distribute that content solely to operate HotLaps — showing your meetup to people at the resort is the whole point. We don’t sell your content or use it for ads.
Only post things you have the right to post. We can remove any content that violates these terms or that we reasonably think is harmful — usually in response to a report.
Reporting & blocking
One-tap report and block live on every surface where another user is visible. Blocking is mutual and silent — the blocked person isn’t notified and can’t see you. Reports are reviewed by humans, and confirmed bad actors get banned, not timed out.
Your account, our kill switch
We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms — including permanently, and including blocking re-registration. For serious stuff (harassment, safety threats, underage users) we act first and review second.
You can delete your account anytime from the iOS app: Profile → Delete account. That removes your data as described in our privacy policy.
HotLaps Pro
HotLaps is free today. We plan a paid tier, HotLaps Pro, with extra features. When it launches, pricing and billing terms will be shown before you pay, purchases will go through Apple’s App Store, and the free core — seeing who’s on the hill and joining meetups — stays free.
No warranties
HotLaps is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. We’re a small team building something new: the service may go down, features may change, and location data is approximate — GPS drifts, geofences are polygons drawn from map data, and a pin can be a chairlift off. Don’t rely on HotLaps for anything where accuracy or availability matters for your safety.
Limits on our liability
To the maximum extent the law allows, HotLaps and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for anything that happens between users — on the mountain or off it. Our total liability for any claim is capped at the greater of $50 or what you paid us in the past 12 months. Some places don’t allow these limits, so parts of this may not apply to you.
Changes to these terms
We’ll update these terms as the product grows. For meaningful changes we’ll notify you in the app or by email before they take effect, and we’ll always update the date at the top of this page. Using HotLaps after a change means you accept it.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes go to the state or federal courts located in Colorado, and you consent to their jurisdiction. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
